This article provides a direct transcription of a corpus of rich information contained on an estate map of Cavan town dated 1785 which details each of the holdings and properties displayed on the map. This detail has been employed in reconstructing the management and administration of one provincial urban estate - that of the Farnham family in Cavan - at this time. Information gleaned from the Farnham estate papers held in the National Library of Ireland, memorials relating to property transactions contained in the Registry of Deeds and municipal records are cited in the footnotes in augmenting this detail and in developing a fuller picture of the management of Farnham’s urban estate and some of the more prominent individuals involved in this. In addition, it is hoped that the transcription will also serve as a rich genealogical source.
