The creation and progression of partnership approaches to Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in Further Education and Training (FET) is opening up opportunities for innovative placement practice for student teachers and FET settings. Higher education institutions that provide ITE courses to existing FET practitioners and individuals interested in entering the sector are learning that innovation and flexibility are hallmarks of FET settings. Student teachers that are proactive and responsive to learners needs and the challenges of diverse programmes and courses are welcomed as FET settings respond to the SOLAS FET strategy and the requirements for accreditation for teachers in FET set down by the Teaching Council of Ireland. The DCU Institute of Education and FETRC (Further Education Training Research Centre) look forward to continuing collaboration with stakeholders in the FET sector to progress and affirm the professionalism and success of further education and training programmes and services.
