This paper details and examines the lesser-known branch of the Sanderson family namely those of Clover Hill, and their estates in county Cavan during the period from the second half of the eighteenth century to the early twentieth century. Consideration is given to the extent and the manner in which they held much of their estate in county Cavan, the rental generated by it and the landscape ornamentation brought about through their construction and maintenance of the mansion house and demesne landscape at Clover Hill and its associated village. Fragmentary estate and family papers generated by and for the Sanderson family, governmental publications and papers, and contemporaneous nineteenth century descriptions, coupled with personal communication, field observations and local knowledge have been utilised.
