This study investigates the technology readiness level of a sample of Malaysian consumers. It identifies the ways in which that technology readiness level influences their intention to use Internet technology for shopping purposes. The research framework adopted is Parasuraman's (2000) Technology Readiness model, which consists of four factors, i.e. optimism, innovativeness, discomfort and insecurity. Parasuraman's questionnaire was adapted and sent to 122 respondents in Malaysia. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results show that while the respondents are optimistic about using Internet technology for shopping, they have a number of reservations about purchasing large items through the Internet. The results will be helpful for online shopping companies seeking to target Malaysians shoppers through marketing programmes as it provides them with insight into the technology readiness of Malaysian shoppers.
