Many graduates from science programmes move on to higher research degrees (MSc., Ph.D) or pursue research careers in industry or research centres. This chapter addresses whether undergraduate programmes in chemistry adequately prepare graduates for such research and examines the relationship between teaching and research. Finally specific examples are given which show how undergraduate students can become engaged in research and research-like activities.
