Platinum nanoparticles, functionalised regioselectively with probe strand DNA, have been immobilised within the interior of gold nanocavity arrays via DNA hybridisation. The immobilised nanoparticles are highly electrocatalytic and show significantly higher currents for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide than uniformly functionalised particles. © 2013 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
