Biography

Emeritus Associate Professor Early Childhood Education  DCU.

Prior to retirement Liz taught and coordinated a range of pre-service and in-service early childhood education courses in her role as Associate Professor in  Early Childhood Education in the School of Language, Literacy and Early Childhood Education.
Prior to working in third-level education,  Liz worked as a primary teacher for almost two decades. She served as Chairperson and Board Member of the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Education (CECDE) (2001-2008). She was closely involved with the development of Síolta, the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education, which was published by the Centre in 2006.  Liz was Chairperson of The Expert Advisory Group which was established by the National Council for Curriculum (NCCA) and Assessment to develop Aistear: The Framework for Early Learning (NCCA, 2009).

In 2014 Liz was responsible for the development of the Bachelor in Early Childhood Education (BECE), a new undergraduate programme where candidates can attain a professional qualification to provide and lead high quality education and care provision for children in the range of prior-to-school early education settings. Liz has worked with a number of external agencies and is currently Chairperson of the Primary Mathematics Development Group (2016-), a group established by the NCCA in order to develop the new mathematics curriculum for children aged 3-13 years.
