Biography

Professor John Doyle is Director of the Institute for International Conflict Resolution and Reconstruction and Executive Dean of DCU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Faculty hosts approximately 25% of DCU students, and a range of internationally linked research projects within its seven academic schools and five research centres. John was previously, Head of the School of Law and Government and before that founding co-Director of the Centre for International Studies in Dublin City University. His research interests include comparative nationalist and ethnic conflict; Northern Ireland, conflict in South Asia and Irish foreign policy. He is Editor of Irish Studies in International Affairs.

Research Interests

  • My research interests are in the broad areas of comparative ethno-national conflict and peace agreements, international security and foreign policy, Northern Ireland and South Asia.  My recent publications have focused on the Northern Ireland peace process and on some of the issues of interest it raises for conflict in South Asia and in particular on Kashmir.  I am also working with colleague Gezim Visoka on some more conceptual work on peace building in the Balkans.
  • At present DCU hosts two Marie Curie EU funded PhD programmes - one of the former Soviet space and one on the Caspian region, which I co-cordinate with colleagues in DCU.
  • I supervise a range of PhD projects but am at present particularly interested in applications with a focus on South Asia.
