Biography

Dr. Tanya Levingstone was awarded a bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering from Dublin City University in 2003. She then undertook her PhD in the area of bioceramic coatings in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and the National Centre for Plasma Science and Technology (NCPST) in DCU. In 2008, she joined the Tissue Engineering Research Group in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, where she led the cartilage tissue engineering faction of the group. Dr. Levingstone returned to DCU to join the academic staff in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in 2016. Her current research focuses on the development of novel biomaterials based approaches for bone and cartilage repair.

Scaffolds, hydrogels and coatings for bone, cartilage and cardiovascular applications
Natural biomaterials for tissue regeneration, specifically collagen, hyaluronic acid and chitosan
Advanced therapeutic strategies including cell and growth factor delivery and novel drug delivery systems
Advanced Biomaterial Manufacturing Techniques including freeze-drying and 3D printing
